Thanks for posting your glycerin tincture recipe Dr. Frankel. Although new to this process, I've been researching online for a couple of months before I attempt my first batch. (Hey, I measure twice before cutting, call me cautious! ;-)

I have a question about removing chlorophyll from shake before cooking the tincture. Should shake be washed in a pan of hot water, then left to soak in it (not cooked!) for a 1/2 hour (or until water turns green,) BEFORE or AFTER de-carboxylyzing the herb?

I want to perform this step as I've read that chlorophyll can cause a migraine or an upset stomach if one is susceptible to such things. Removing chlorophyll also removes the "herby" taste from the tincture. (I'd rather the taste of the sweet glycerin prevailed!) Since the cannabinoids are fat soluble, and chlorophyll is water soluble, my understanding is that soaking in water will not remove them, just the chlorophyll (and possibly other water soluble chemicals in the herb.)

Looking forward to seeing the results of your LC tests.

Thanks in advance. Irishgawdess

JUST USE SHAKE!! You don't need to use bud. You can also cut the recipe in half and it will be fine. Just don't let it burn and add a little water from time to time if it becomes very thick.

Hi,.. just made a post on the message board,. then came here. You kinda already answered my question I posted there,.. sorry for not looking here sooner.
Question was concerning the need to heat it to 200 degrees for 45 min. before crock potting (150deg.) it for 12 hours,. just seemed redundant,...... Definitely not if baking it for 45 min. makes it stonier. Have you received results yet from your test?Definitely

You can pour it directly into the crock pot.

If you grind the cannabis and "bake it" at around 280 degrees F for 20 minutes, the THC will much more likely be fully de-carboxylyzed and the tincture will be "stonier".
