ADJUVANT – Wikipedia definition:
An adjuvant (from Latin, adiuvare: to aid) is a pharmacological or immunological agent that modifies the effect of other agents.
In the medical world, adjuvant therapy is a commonly used word to describe therapies that help other cancer modalities work better. As I have written a number of times, we just cannot talk about “CURE” right now. There are two main reasons for this:
1. There are no good studies showing this
2. Even the cases that are very convincing that I have seen myself, will require at least a five year wait to be called cures.
Why are we being so tough on ourselves and pushing for cannabis as the certain “cure”. It is an amazing medicine in many areas including killing cancer cells. Even if the best that cannabis does in the cancer arena is help with symptoms and help the patient live WITH their disease, it is a huge achievement.
There may be cures – we will see. There will be failures – there are failures. However, there are MANY patients whose lives are being altered; both improved in quality and length. In addition, there are a number of patients where masses disappear. I just heard about another one of my patients last night whose lung cancer and metastasis have just vanished with no other cancer therapy.
So, let’s be optimistic. Adjuvant cancer therapy using cannabis is real and is here now. Cures – we will see??
