As many of you, I am so saddened to hear about the apparent suicide of Robin Williams; one of my favorites for certain.
As I sat down this evening watching the news on Robin, I could not help but wonder how much of his depression was never shared. I could not but help but wonder how his recent rehabilitation really went. I wondered if anyone ever considered using cannabis as a harm reduction model.
By far, the most common example of harm reduction in my practice is seeing many, many patients finally able to stop using tranquilizers, narcotics and other legal and illicit drugs. In general, no taper is required when balanced CBD/THC medicine is used.
When people do ANYTHING, the reason they do whatever they do is to make themselves feel better. Even people who perform self harming behaviors, they ultimately do this to feel SOMETHING.
How many people could benefit from non-psychoactive cannabinoid medicine who are dealing with drugs and depression? How easy it SHOULD be to do.
These patients can easily dial in their own level of CBD or THC. Many patients who are using destructive drugs, can perhaps obtain the “feeling” they need to help them make better selections.
The one obvious issue is that AA does not endorse cannabis. I have written about this a number of times and I think AA should consider allowing non-psychoactive cannabinoids. There should be meetings where this is openly discussed.
I wish Robin had tried cannabinoids……I really do.
