I was asked by someone the other day “what I did”? Sometimes, honestly, I will say I am an Internal Medicine Doctor. It is true, but ……. not really true, but I don’t want to get into a big discussion; Just not worth the energy.
However, with this person, I blurted out “Customized Cannabis Treatment Plans”. He totally cracked up and then of course I began laughing as well. He asked me again what I did and I repeated the same. It finally struck me; That is really what I do all day long.
Every day, perhaps I see 12 patients. That is a very busy day for me. They range from a child with seizures, to a couple of Stage IV Cancer patients, some neurological disorders, pain syndromes, anxiety, insomnia, other mood disorders and even Vertigo and sunburn and more; CBD/THC/whole plant cannabis is a group of expanding and amazing variety and efficacy.
Over the past 5 years with using various doses with different patients with many diseases, I had learned, at least the start, of “Customized Cannabis Treatment Plans”. These are not prescriptions, per se, as that is not possible or legal, but instructions with specifics on dosing and frequency. Armed with this information, I can follow up with a patient in a week and help them adjust their dosage. I myself, in addition to the patient and the collective actually know how many mg of CBD or THC each patient is taking. Since we all know what the patient is taking, we can easily and productively adjust their dosage over time. I believe our success rate is pretty good and we are developing much better ways to follow up every patient seen in our offices.
At the end of the day, “customized” dosing is really nothing more than what we all do with every patient we see for all causes under all situations. I cannot see any reason why this is not more widely employed. For sure it IS LEGAL TO TELL YOUR PATIENT WHAT YOU THINK IS BEST FOR THEM!!!
Frankly, if you can’t do that as a physician, you should consider what you ARE doing.
Patients. Encourage your physician to be comfortable with giving you more dosing information. It will be well worth it.
