2 1/2 years ago, I wrote a blog:
https://www.greenbridgemed.com/2012/07/08/please-get-our-facts-straight-there-is-no-gmo-cannabis/
I stated that GMO has a very scary future but was NOT the explanation for the early wide CBD:THC ratio strains that first appeared at this time.
There were folks claiming that ACDC and Seabdx, two of the early strains, were GMO based; they were not. I also stated that there is a scary future for GMO cannabis.
I may have been incorrect in saying that there is no GMO Cannabis. There certainly WAS work going on at the time and I was a bit naive.
At this point in time, GMO cannabis is becoming a big deal. There are so many good articles out there. I like the site:
http://gmocannabiswatch.blogspot.com/. It is so easy to make good arguments with regard to the potential use of modified cannabis genes. I can think of an easy CBG only plant and many others.
The obvious nightmare is that I believe the naturally occurring cannabinoid genetic library is already virtually infinite. We are on the edge of finding incredible NATURALLY OCCURRING strains. We can ruin that real quickly.
In addition, the cannabis plant is actually a very “sensitive” plants. It is also a very, very complex plant with almost endless variables. A cannabis plant is not a tomato and we already have plenty of GMO nightmares from tomatoes and rice.
We are truly at a point where we are finding new CBD rich strains naturally….from good old fashioned male/female pollination. It is an amazing process.
I cannot think of a worse plant to mess with.
That said, it is already happening.
