Currently, if a physician deems it appropriate and a patient is expected to have less than six months to live, they are put into Hospice. This can be at the patient’s home. Hospice is an “end of the road” program. A patient is not expected to survive and only palliative care is provided.
Now with some cancer patients as well as others, they are getting better on cannabinoid therapy and are now in need of reasonable medical care. Here is the catch……once in Hospice, you have a difficult time getting out. The patient has a VERY difficult time obtaining follow up scans as they are feeling better.
So, now, a part of some days is speaking with social workers with regard to how to get Medicare to pay for MRI and other scans on patients who have “survived Hospice”.
I can see the T-Shirt now.
